A MaximusFPS guide
What causes input delay and inconsistent performance in Valorant?
Valorant can feel delayed because of local input/rendering latency, uneven frame delivery or network problems. These need separate measurements. Check refresh rate, game performance metrics and supported latency settings first, then compare an online match with the practice range before changing Windows or Vanguard-related settings.
What to check first
- Check refresh rate, an unintended frame cap and available in-game performance metrics.
- Note whether the delay affects local aim movement or only online actions.
- Check supported Reflex settings and current Riot guidance.
Likely causes and how to distinguish them
At competitive settings, game-thread and CPU behaviour can matter even when GPU usage is low. A cap can also make low GPU utilisation completely normal.
A saturated rendering workload can increase local latency; NVIDIA Reflex targets CPU/GPU coordination in supported games. It does not reduce the distance to the server.
Riot recommends Ethernet where possible because wireless interference can produce latency spikes or packet loss. Network delay is different from a slow local frame.
Diagnostic steps, in order
- Use the practice range to test repeatable aim movement while monitoring FPS and frametimes. Keep graphics and device settings fixed.
- Check actual display refresh rate and test a sustainable cap with the supported in-game latency setting.
- Compare ping and packet-loss metrics in an online match. Try Ethernet and pause downloads rather than installing a “ping optimizer”.
- If there are Vanguard or launch errors, follow Riot’s official support instructions. Do not bypass security requirements or install undocumented anti-cheat tweaks.
Limitations and when help may be appropriate
No optimization service can promise elimination of geographical latency or freedom from anti-cheat issues. Seek help for measured local instability, but use Riot support for current Vanguard requirements and account/game errors. Keep changes documented and reversible.
Follow-up questions
Does Reflex fix a bad connection?
No. It addresses PC rendering latency in supported configurations. Jitter and packet loss need a connection investigation.
Should I force high GPU utilisation?
No. Low load can be normal in a capped or CPU-limited competitive workload. Judge stable frame delivery and latency rather than a utilisation target.
