MAXIMUSFPS

A MaximusFPS guide

Should I optimize my PC or upgrade the hardware?

Optimize first when measurements point to avoidable configuration, background load or an incorrect setting. Consider hardware when a healthy, stable system still cannot meet your target game, resolution and FPS. Diagnose cooling or faults before either purchase. A software service cannot replace missing GPU compute, CPU capacity or sufficient memory.

What to check first

  • Define the game, resolution, graphics quality and performance you want.
  • Measure GPU/CPU behaviour, memory use, temperatures and clocks in a representative scene.
  • Compare performance after one sensible setting change, not a different game or map.

Likely causes and how to distinguish them

A GPU-heavy workload may respond to lower resolution or graphics detail. CPU-limited scenes may not. Insufficient memory capacity can create pressure, while a faster profile is a separate question from needing more capacity.

Thermal throttling can disguise otherwise adequate hardware. Upgrading without correcting airflow or cooling may carry the same problem into the new configuration.

Diagnostic steps, in order

  1. Establish a repeatable baseline and remove unintended limits, such as a wrong refresh setting or cap, only for the diagnostic test.
  2. Test lower rendering load to identify GPU pressure. Test a CPU-sensitive option separately and look for improvement in frame consistency as well as average FPS.
  3. Check stock stability and cooling. Do not use unstable overclocking as the basis for an upgrade decision.
  4. If hardware is the constraint, review compatibility: motherboard, BIOS support, power supply, case space and cooling. Compare the upgrade cost with the value of your target experience.

Limitations and when help may be appropriate

There is no universal percentage improvement from optimization and no single “balanced” hardware pairing for all games. A technician may help with diagnosis, but purchasing advice needs your workload and budget. Physical repairs and component installation are not verified MaximusFPS offerings.

Follow-up questions

Can tuning make an old GPU perform like a newer tier?

No. Settings can reduce its workload or correct a problem, but do not create the hardware capability of a faster GPU.

Is more expensive hardware always smoother?

No. Game behaviour, settings, memory and cooling still matter. Choose hardware for the measured limitation and test stability afterwards.
